Jaipur: Amid an uproar by the Opposition MLAs over his remarks in the House, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shanti Dhariwal on Thursday tendered an apology saying it was “a slip of tongue”.
The BJP, however, shouted slogans against him and demanded his resignation.
“It was a slip of tongue. I feel sorry for that. I wanted to say something for the desert state. I personally respect women and will continue to do so. If my comments have hurt anyone, I apologise,” Mr Dhariwal said.
Actually, Minister Shanti Dhariwal was answering a question in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. During this, he was telling the statistics of rape. He said that Rajasthan ranks first in the country in rape cases. Then suddenly Dhariwal stopped while speaking. After a while, he said that now Rajasthan is at number one in the country in the cases of rape.
Minister Dhariwal said, “…and we are at number one in the case of rape, there is no two opinion in it…and why are they in the case of rape…somewhere there is a mistake…anyway.” Rajasthan has been a man’s state…now what to do with it…
At the same time, Rajasthan BJP Chief Dr Satish Poonia said that the shameless confession of being number one in the state of rape in the house and the levelless statement towards women in the guise of men is not only an insult to the women of the state but also has brought down the dignity of men. What will Priyanka Gandhi say now, what will she do?
